What to do on Cape Cod amidst COVID-19 uncertainties
Cape Cod is in the process of slowly and safely reopening in the wake of the Corona Virus pandemic. It may not be “business as usual”, but there certainly are plenty of reasons to make Cape Cod your destination for a socially distant and fun family vacation. With less tourists than normal, now is the perfect time to visit to socially distance yourself away from others and bring your family closer together.
Dining
If your family is looking to eat out during your stay, fortunately there still are many options to chose from. Main Street Hyannis has erected concrete barriers that line the road, making room for outdoor seating for restaurants. Though indoor seating is currently permitted on Cape Cod, an extended outdoor seating accomodation is provided out of respect for those who chose to take stricter precautionary measures. Less than 2 miles away from the Bayside Resort, Main Street Hyannis offers a wide selection of 49 restaurants that range from seafood to fine dining, bars, and casual gourmet. Further, located right in Yarmouth, we recommend your family to visit restaurants such as the Skipper or Captain Parkers, who have fantastic water views in their outdoor seating areas. There’s no better place to enjoy seafood than Cape Cod, and not even the pandemic can stop that! Finally, because of the limited seating capacity due to social distancing guidelines, we encourage you to call ahead and make a reservation if possible.
Take a Hike!
A fantastic way to distance yourself from others is to take a hike, or a bike! Our first recommendation for hikes are rail trails. First, the Shining Sea Rail Trail stretches 10.7 miles, but has various intervals to park at to customize the length of your journey. The flat paved trail passes through Chapoquoit Beach, Sippewissett Salt Marsh, cranberry bogs, and finishes at historic Woods Hole. Other flat and paved rail trails include the Cape Cod Canal and the Cape Cod Rail Trail– both are also great places to get some fresh air on safe, paved ground. Next, we also recommend you check out nature trails! There has never been a better time to go outside and distance yourself from others. Additionally, with the limited tourism to Cape Cod this summer, we encourage you to take this rare opportunity to see the Cape untouched by others. Our top picks for nature trails include the White Cedar Swamp trail, Fort Hill Trail, and Sandy Neck Beach. In all three of these trails you will get access to a unique aspect of what makes the Cape so special. More information on Cape Cod nature trails can be found on the National Parks Website.
Go to the Drive In!
We covered this topic previously in our “Best Things to do on Cape Cod” post, and fortunately the argument still holds true! Visiting the Drive In is still one of the most charming and safest activities to do this summer, and will be fun your family won’t want to miss. Enjoy movies found in theaters today at the comfort and distance of your own car. Additionally, with the grand opening of the Yarmouth Drive In, the Bayside Resort is only minutes away from the fun! Tickets are $30 a car, with a max of 4 people. Additional passengers will require a small fee. Tickets can be found at YarmouthDriveIn.com. Further, if you want a more nostalgic experience, visit the Wellfleet Drive In! Parking spots are limited to every other space and a mask must be worn when visiting the snack bar and bathroom. Tickets are 13$ a person and can also be found on their website.Â
