Where to Take the Kids Kayaking on Cape Cod

So, you’re vacationing on Cape Cod with the kids. You’ve hit all of the big Cape Cod attractions, and no-doubt you’re staying at one of the awesome Cape Cape Cod Hotels… but now what?

My recommendation: Rent some kayaks.

Cape Cod kayaking in the fall is sublime. It’s peaceful… yet filled with adventure and wonder. The are several great kayaking spots on Cape Cod, but if you have kids with you, I highly recommend Waquoit Bay.

Waquoit Bay was recently endorsed by the Boston Globe as being a great family kayaking bay. Here’s how their travel editors describe it:

“Waquoit Bay is a narrow, shallow bay on the south side of Cape Cod, near Falmouth. Unique here is access to the 355-acre, state-owned Washburn Island – which is the only non-commercial place on Cape Cod where you can legally camp on the water. The estuary is rich in wildlife from quahogs to osprey. You can paddle up the Childs and Seapit rivers to the bay. The large undeveloped land to your right is Washburn Island – accessible by boat. ”

“To get to Waquoit Bay, you can launch from White’s Landing on Route 28 toward Falmouth, just west of the Edwards Boatyard.”

A day spent kayaking on Cape Cod is one I highly recommend – especially if you’ve booked one the area’s famous Cape Cod Family Hotel Packages. If you go, be sure to write in and tell me how your excursion went. And, don’t forget to send pictures!
