Cape Cod golfing season is here!

One Cape Cod golf course that offers quintessential charm and beauty is Farm Neck Golf Club on Martha’s Vineyard.

Just A Ferry Ride Away

Golf Vacation Insider has hailed Farm Neck as having the “best public-access layout around” – and for good reason. Farm Neck is understated, yet elegant, from the design of the scorecards and signs, to the shaded putting greens, to the wide open first fairway.  The course  opened with nine holes in 1979, added the second nine a year later, and has garnered fans ever since. Farm Neck’s brilliant design is the work of famed golf architects Geoffrey Cornish, Bill Robinson, and Patrick Mulligan.

Beauty and Challenge

But as beautiful as this course is, it should not be underestimated. Water threatens on nine of the holes, and deep bunkers lurk around several corners. You’ll find many holes running along the Vineyard Sound, and others running through meadows and marshes. Wildlife will keep you on your toes at every hole.

Insider’s Tip

There are dozens of tips about Farm Neck I could pass along to you, but I’ll give you these pieces of advice: Look out at hole two – a narrow, but short par 5. Miss the fairway left and you’re in heavy rough and blocked by trees and rolling hills. Miss right and you risk OB on the road, and more tree blockage. Yet a decent drive of 250 from the blues has to thread the needle between a set of bunkers that squeeze the fairway to about 22 yards in the center.
